Do You Buy Organic Foods?

Unless you’ve had your head stuck in the sand, you know we’re in a recession. Because of that economic slow down, it was expected by market researchers that there would be a slump in sales of organic foods. Turns out instead of a slow down in organic food sales, they actually increased by 15.8 percent in 2008, according to a survey done by the Lieberman Research Group for the Organic Trade Association (OTA).

Food Holidays In June – National Hazelnut Cake Day

When we think of holidays, we usually think of some food associated with each particular holiday, like turkey at Thanksgiving. The type of traditional foods varies from family to family, but most people have them. However, there are also food specific holidays. Natural Food – Quinoa

Quinoa is a seed about the size of a millet, produced from a plant related to spinach and Swiss chard. It’s available as a grain, flour, pasta and cereal. It’s nutritional quality is compared to that of dried whole milk by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Bottom line, quinoa has more protein in it than any other grain known.

Are All Fibers Created Equal?

The fiber in your diet comes from plants and different plants have varying amounts and types. The fiber is the part of the plant that isn’t digested by enzymes in the intestinal tract, though some parts may be metabolized by bacteria in the lower gut. It is found ONLY in plant foods: fruit, vegetables, nuts and grains. There is no fiber in eggs, meat or milk.
