My one complaint about The Great Cholesterol Lie: it targets people concerned about heart disease, but has great health information everyone needs to know about inflammation. And good health food is just the right thing to stop inflammation!
Post from: Health Food Made Easy

The Great Cholesterol Lie – Facts And Comments

Need An Anti Inflammation Diet?

After reading “The Great Cholesterol Lie” ebook, I have one major complaint. It’s called “The Great Cholesterol Lie” because the author, Dr. Dwight Lundell, is a heart surgeon and he wrote it to teach people how to keep from getting heart disease. That’s all well and good, but the title doesn’t go far enough. This book isn’t just for people trying to prevent heart disease. It should be required reading for anyone trying to stay healthy in today’s world of junk food and popping pills for symptoms.

See, the whole premise behind this ebook is that cholesterol is not the enemy when it comes to heart disease. Nope, it’s inflammation. But inflammation isn’t just tied to heart disease. In reality, it’s tied to almost every disease or condition out there in one way or another, including:

Alzheimer’s

Arthritis

Cancer

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Diabetes Type 2

Fibromyalgia

Hypertension

Impaired Immune Response

Infections Following Wounds

Liver Disease

Pancreatitis

Stroke

I could go on and on. The point is, chronic inflammation is a contributing factor to a whole lot of ailments.

You Need An Anti Inflammation Diet!

So why am I telling you all this on a health food blog?
Because good health food is a good anti inflammation diet!

“The Great Cholesterol Lie” ebook is full of information and ideas on how to change your lifestyle and get rid of the inflammation, and healthy eating is certainly a big part of that.

There are chapters explaining how the “eating a low fat diet is good for you” myth got started, and why inflammation is the culprit instead. The book explains exactly why the carbohydrate craze and low-fat diets are a problem.

The Whole Picture On How To Fight Inflammation

But low-fat diets aren’t the only problem. While learning to eat the right kind of fats is important, it’s also essential to know about the problems associated with too much sugar in your diet, and other factors that impact your health like smoking, hypertension, stress, obesity and vitamin deficiencies.

And just so you know all this isn’t all a figment of Dr. Lundell’s imagination. “The Great Cholesterol Lie” has a bunch of appendices full of studies showing how the wrong cause for heart disease was targeted. Instead of low-fat diets and statin drugs to control cholesterol, we need to be controlling the chronic inflammation so many of us are living with.

And once again, a big part of the answer is to change our diet.
Good health foods to the rescue!

You probably use cooking oils more than you realize. Whether you are cooking eggs, grilled cheese sandwiches, or just stir frying vegetables, you are probably using at least a teaspoon or two of cooking oil. This adds up pretty quickly, and this is why you want to make sure that you are using healthy cooking oils.

Even if you are not overweight and otherwise not concerned about your health, by switching to healthy cooking oils you will be doing yourself a huge favor. You can’t even taste the difference between the regular cooking oils that you are probably used to using and the healthy cooking oils, so what is the big deal?

Heart healthy cooking is very important these days, what with the fatty, deep fried foods that are all so readily available to us.

The Selection

So you may not be aware of just which oils are considered as being healthy cooking oils. It is important to weigh up each cooking oil and take a look at it from all sides to determine which is going to be the healthiest. There is canola oil for one, which is low in saturated fats and rich in monosaturated fats.

Canola oil is very low in fat and good for the heart, so it should be one of your main cooking oils. There is also the extra virgin olive oil which is quite commonly used, and this should also be a staple in your kitchen when it comes to cooking oils. This oil is also rich in monosaturated fats and contains phytochemicals that may help to lower blood cholesterol levels, so it is actually good for you.

Then there are various other types of cooking oils that you can consider as well, such as the macadamia nut oil, sesame oil and soybean oil. Each of these offers its own benefits, and they are all about equal in terms of health, so you can leave it up to your own personal taste.

Remember, switching to healthy cooking oils is only one thing on the almost endless list of things that you can do to improve your health. Ever thing that you can do for your health, no matter how seemingly small will make a difference in the end and you need to remember this.

Also keep in mind that no matter what changes you make to your diet and how healthy you may be eating, if you are not exercising on a regular basis you are not going to be able to get in the shape that you want.
