It's good to have protein for breakfast, to help fuel the cells in your body. Oatmeal is a good food, but it's not as high in protein as it could be. It's easy to up the protein level of your oatmeal and help jumpstart your morning.
Post from: Health Food Made Easy

Healthy Peanut Butter With Oatmeal

Get More Protein By Eating
,
Oatmeal With Peanut Butter

.

Since breakfast is the first meal of the day, it’s always good to include some protein to help fuel the cells of your body. Oatmeal is a great breakfast food, but it could use a little more protein to help jump start your day. That’s where peanut butter comes in.

Just stir a tablespoon or two of natural peanut butter in your oatmeal, and you’ve got a whole new taste and a lot more protein. It doesn’t matter if it’s creamy or chunky, but it DOES matter if it’s natural. Regular peanut butter is full of sugar and hydrogenated vegtable oil. You don’t need the extra sugar, and the hydrogenated oil is bad stuff. So go for the healthy natural peanut butter.

That’s all there is to it!

If you’re skipping breakfast, I doubt I need to tell you that’s bad. You can hear from all kinds of sources that it’s important to eat a good breakfast. So what’s keeping you from doing it? Time? Stuck in a rut?

Well, whatever your problem is, shake up your world a little and try to eat something tasty and good for you in the morning. It doesn’t have to take a lot of time and it can make a big difference in how you feel the rest of the day.

What’s NOT A Healthy Breakfast

If you’re snarfing down lattes and donuts, come on, I really don’t have to say it do I? You know that’s not a healthy breakfast. Neither is a bowl full of sugar-laden cereal, a piece of toast and a cup of coffee, granola bars that are nothing more than glorified candy bars. . . you get the idea.

Don’t let advertisements fool you. Look for “whole” foods. Whole grains, proteins, food that will put some high quality fuel in your body.

So, Just What Is A Healthy Breakfast?

Think of the word “breakfast” – you are breaking a fast. You haven’t eaten for 8 hours or more. You need something to fuel your body and jumpstart your day. Lots of carbs might make you feel alert for a little while, but if that’s all you’re eating, you’re gonna crash.

What you need in the mix is some PROTEIN. It doesn’t matter what kind – eggs, whey powder in a fruit smoothie, nuts in your oatmeal, whatever! Just make sure to get some protein in your breakfast.

Examples of A Healthy Breakfast

If you need some ideas for a good breakfast, how about some of these?

Nutrition Shakes (made with fruit and some kind of protein powder like whey)

Eggs fixed to your tastes (not swimming in grease however!)

Oatmeal with 1 egg as a side, or Power Oatmeal

Muesli or Granola made with oats, nuts, and other ingredients, but NOT totally loaded with sugar!

Whole grain pancakes or waffles topped with fruit or yogurt

What Is a Healthy Breakfast?
Think Outside Of The Box Sometimes!

Just because it’s breakfast, you don’t have to eat traditional breakfast food. If you have some leftovers that look good, go for it! (I won’t mention how often my teenage boys ate pizza for breakfast. . .) Just try to eat something that has protein and whole grains, instead of sugar and refined white flour.

If routine works for you, pick a good breakfast food like Power Oatmeal, and fix it every day.
If you need something speedy, try a nutrition shake or oatmeal in a slow cooker.
Even scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast are fast to fix.

Just find something that works for you, and make sure you eat a healthy breakfast!

Functional Food Definition

Functional foods are defined as “foods that have been linked to potentially healthful benefits.”

Obviously, some foods provide more health benefits than others, ranging from the super foods that are great health foods, to the dismal stuff loaded with toxic substances.

Choosing The Best Functional Foods

The New York State Dietetic Association recently chose what they consider to be the top five functional foods. They polled nutritionists in their organization to list foods they considered to have the best health benefits and value. Not surprisingly, three of their choices are on the Super Hero Health Foods List.

The Top Five Functional Foods List

Their choices are:

Salmon: Chosen for the potent omega-3 fatty acid levels, salmon tops the list. These substances have benefits for the heart, brain and more.

Oats: The high fiber content of oats landed them in second place. They are known for “aiding with digestion, [and which] also helps fight disease, and may lower risk for high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.” No doubt about it, oats are a functional food worthy of the Super Hero Health Food List!

Blueberries: If you haven’t heard about the benefits of blueberries, where have you been hiding? They’re full of vitamins C and E, along with other phytonutrients that make them a great functional food.

Low-fat milk: The high calcium and vitamin D content put low-fat milk on the list. Calcium and vitamin D are both good for lowering blood pressure and building strong bones.

Low-fat yogurt: Not just any low-fat yogurt, but the kinds containing “live and active cultures” that act as probiotics. These living organisms aid in digestion and immune function

There you have it, their list of the top five functional foods. Adding any of these to your diet would be a good way to get more easy healthy food in your diet!
