<p>A rich source of fiber, oats have beta-glucans, a fiber which helps protect against heart disease.</p>
<p>Oats also have a bunch of minerals needed for good health, including:</p>
<ul>
<li>copper</li>
<li>magnesium</li>
<li>manganese</li>
<li>potassium</li>
<li>selenium</li>
<li>zinc</li>
</ul>
<p>These minerals lower the risk for high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and heart disease.</p>
<p><em><span style="color: #993366;">Oats Super Hero Sidekicks</span></em> include amaranth, <a href="http://healthfoodmadeeasy.com/barley-health-food/" title="Barley - Health Food in a Grain"   target="_blank">barley</a>, buckwheat, flaxseed, millet, wheat germ, and whole wheat. Good choices, just not <em>quite</em> as nutritionally dense as oats.</p>
<p>The goal is to eat five to seven daily servings of oats or other whole grains. A serving size is about one-half cup of cooked oats, or three-quarters to one cup dry. One slice of whole grain bread also equals one serving.</p>
