 If you&#8217;re looking for a diet plan that will help your body deal with chronic illness, then an anti inflammation diet may be just what you need.</p>

It’s called “<strong>The Great Cholesterol Lie</strong>” because the author, Dr. Dwight Lundell, is a heart surgeon and he wrote it to teach people how to keep from getting heart disease. That’s all well and good, but the title doesn’t go far enough. This book isn’t just for people trying to prevent heart disease. It should be required reading for anyone trying to stay healthy in today’s world of junk food and popping pills for symptoms.</p>
<h2>What The Great Cholesterol Lie is About</h2>
<p>See, the whole premise behind this ebook is that cholesterol is <strong>not</strong> the enemy when it comes to heart disease. Nope, <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>it’s inflammation</strong>.</span> But inflammation isn’t just tied to heart disease.  In reality, it’s tied to almost every disease or condition out there in one way or another, including:</p>
<ul>
<li>Alzheimer’s</li>
<li>Arthritis</li>
<li>Cancer</li>
<li>Chronic Fatigue Syndrome</li>
<li>Diabetes Type 2</li>
<li>Fibromyalgia</li>
<li>Hypertension</li>

<p>There are chapters explaining how the “eating a low fat diet is good for you” myth got started, and why inflammation is the culprit instead. The book explains exactly why the carbohydrate craze and low-fat diets are a problem.</p>
<p><strong>The Whole Picture On How To Fight Inflammation</strong></p>
<p>But low-fat diets aren’t the only problem. While learning to eat the right kind of fats is important, it’s also essential to know about the problems associated with too much sugar in your diet, and other factors that impact your health like smoking, hypertension, stress, obesity and vitamin deficiencies.</p>
<p>And just so you know all this isn’t all a figment of Dr. Lundell’s imagination. &#8220;<em>The Great Cholesterol Lie</em>&#8221; has a bunch of appendices full of studies showing how the wrong cause for heart disease was targeted. <p>From 1977 to 2001, the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages containing fructose increased 135 percent. In 2006 five different publications came out showing that adolescents, college students and adults under 50 were consuming as much as 20 percent of their calories from sugar-sweetened beverages — and that doesn’t include the sugar calories from cakes and desserts. Most of this sugar comes from fructose and “fructose on steroids,” also known as high-fructose corn syrup.</p>
<p>These sugars are everywhere. We consume them in insanely high amounts, and the health costs are just beginning to be recognized. New research points to some of the possible consequences.</p>
<p>In one study, overweight and obese adults were instructed to eat their usual diet along with sugar-sweetened beverages. One group was asked to consume 25 percent of the day’s calorie requirement as a specially made beverage sweetened with glucose (a simpler form of sugar). The other group was given an identical beverage sweetened with fructose. Both groups were allowed to eat as little or as much of their usual diet as they wanted, but were required to drink the sugar beverages.</p>
<p>Not surprisingly, all subjects gained weight. But the fructose-consuming subjects gained intra-abdominal fat, whereas the glucose subjects did not.</p>
<p>Why does this matter? Because intra-abdominal fat — the kind that makes you more of an apple than a pear — is the most dangerous kind of fat to carry around. It puts you at greater risk for diabetes, heart disease and a constellation of symptoms called Metabolic Syndrome, which itself is an almost certain path to either heart disease or diabetes. The fructose-consuming subjects also had increases in fasting insulin and in fasting glucose, both of which are associated with a greater risk of metabolic syndrome and diabetes.</p>
<p>Triglycerides have long been recognized as an independent risk factor for heart disease. In this study, researchers measured triglycerides after eating. In the fructose group, postprandial triglycerides more than doubled. In addition, the overweight men and women assigned to drink the fructose-sweetened beverages developed a more atherogenic lipid profile in just two weeks, meaning they may have been on their way to atherosclerosis.</p>
<p>The message is clear. Read food labels carefully. Cut fructose and its steroidal cousin from your diet.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>Continuing the theme this week of health foods that aren&#8217;t, let&#8217;s consider soy.  For years we’ve been told to give up the beef and even milk, and eat soy products instead. But is soy really the great health food it’s promoted to be?</p>
<p>Actually, it seems like it’s more a case of good marketing than good science. When you consider soybean producers pay a mandatory assessment on the net market price of soybeans that totals millions annually to support the United Soybean&#8217;s program to &#8220;strengthen the position of soybeans in the marketplace”, and state soybean councils and private companies also spend millions in advertising, it’s easy to see how soy got it’s great reputation.</p>
<p>But while big guns like Monsanto, Cargill Foods and SoyLife promote soy as superb nutrition, soy as a health food is becoming more and more controversial, with other scientists, doctors and researchers pointing out soy’s potential dangers.</p>
<p>It’s true soy has protein and other nutrients, but so does cow manure, and I don’t think many people are ready to add <em>that</em> to their diet. Facts are that soy contains a lot of unhealthy components. Some of these include:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Phytic acid</strong> – This substance blocks the body&#8217;s uptake of essential minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron and especially zinc.</li>
<li><strong>Hemagglutinin</strong> &#8211; a clot-promoting substance which causes red blood cells to clump together.</li>
<li><strong>Phytoestrogens</strong> – These chemicals mimic estrogen and disrupt endocrine function and have the potential to cause infertility and to promote breast cancer in adult women. They are also anti-thyroid agents that cause hypothyroidism and may even cause thyroid cancer.</li>
<li><strong>Trypsin inhibits</strong> – These interfere with protein digestion.</li>
<li><strong>Aluminum</strong> – Soy foods contain high levels of this metal known to be toxic to the nervous system and kidneys.</li>
</ul>
<p>The processing to make soy foods also causes the formation of toxic lysinoalanine, carcinogenic nitrosamines, and free glutamic acid (a neurotoxin).</p>
<p>Also consider that a very large percentage of soy &#8211; over 90% &#8211; is genetically modified.  It also has one of the highest percentages of contamination by pesticides of any of the foods we eat.</p>
<p>Does this really sound like a health food?</p>
<p>If you want to add soy to your diet, do yourself a favor and do some research first. Dig past the marketing hype and look for scientific studies not funded by people with a vested interest in promoting soy products.</p>
<p>I think you&#8217;ll find soy as a health food is a case of good marketing, not truly good food.</p>
