Adding any kind of fruit to your diet is always a good choice for an easy health food, but most of us probably don’t think about grilling fruit. That’s a shame really, because it’s really pretty good and can be a nice change of pace, besides being such an easy health food to add to your diet.
You can eat grilled fruit all by itself, or add it to salads, cooked grains, or eat it with cheese. Sweet grilled fruits go well with ice cream, custards, rice pudding, cakes and cookies. For a really yummy treat, try making a grilled fruit pizza using cream cheese or mascarpone.
Tips On Grilling Fruit
There are some things you need to remember when grilling fruit:
- Use fruit that is ripe but still somewhat firm (so it doesn’t fall apart on the grill).
- Give the fruit a good brushing of oil or melted butter before putting it on the grill so it doesn’t stick.
- Start with a clean grill, whether grilling inside or out.
- Keep the heat low, turning it up just enough to sear the fruit.
Fruit is usually high in sugar content, so it will char quickly, so don’t walk off and leave it. The fruit should take only a couple of minutes in most cases to char, and a total of 5 minutes tops to be completely done.
